Mandø's history

Mandø, the Wadden Sea Island between Rømø and Fanø, is likely one of Denmark’s most peaceful islands so there are only a few points of resemblance with the other holiday islands in the Wadden Sea.

Mandø Museum - The Mandø House

Visit Mandøhuset, which is an old skipper's home from the 19th century. Seems like when the house was occupied - as if the skipper's family is just out for a moment.

Mandø Mill

Mandø Mill is the island's tallest building and has naturally become the island's landmark.

Mandø Church

Mandø Church was built in 1639 and is one of three known church buildings on Mandø. The sea claimed the earlier churches.

Lifesaving Station - Mandø

The life saving station is owned by Mandø Museum. It was in function as life saving station from 1912 to 1961.

The storm surge column stands on the road through the dunes past the rescue station down to the sea. It tells of Mandø's close contact with the not always peaceful Wadden Sea.
